Laminate flooring issues?
i am moving into a new rented flat and the carpets are ugly, i want to put laminate flooring down, but i don't want to shell out too much for somthing that i might leave behind in a year, so what i want to ask is is there a kind of laminate flooring which i can place down directly over the carpet, and take up, (and if so where can i get it in the uk) and if not where can i buy a cool looking cheap one that i won't mind leaving behind...

- I don't think there is any flooring that can go over carpet.
- You cannot put laminate over carpet! Flooring doesnt' cost that much, but check in your area for a discount flooring store. We have one in the area where I live...or ask at your local flooring store if they have discontinued flooring. Sometimes they keep stuff in the back that they are not going to reorder....you can get good deals that way. I even saw some on clearance at Lowes or Home Depot recently for like $15 for a large roll.
- No. The carpet will be too soft an underlay for the laminate and when you walk over it it will strain the joints and the boards will start to come apart. If you use a cheap one at least you won't have wasted a fortune.
- The problem with laminate flooring or sheet goods is, it must have a solid backing. If not, it could rip from bending. Over time, the sheet goods will conform with the uneven carpet surface below it creating high spots on your floor which will wear out prematurely. How about area rugs? They could lay over the existing carpet with no problem. You could use more than one if you need it. When it comes time to move, just roll them up, and you are out of there.
