Laminate Flooring - Underlay Issues (Help) !!?
Hi, I'm putting down laminate flooring throughout my house and was told i have to use the special laminate underlay. However my house has brand new underlay which was laid just before i moved in. To me they both look very similar. To save me an arm and a leg, could i not just use the new underlay that's down as a backing for the laminate?? All skirtings are off. Underlay goes all the way to the edge. No issue with clearance for doors, etc.

- Yeah, no problem, it's mostly for sound insulation anyway.
- yes, the underlay you already put down will do the job.. Laminate flooring "floats" anyway.. use the money to buy trim beads to finish it off round the edges.. and it will look great... g'luck..
- yes
- as long as the underlay is not too thick there will be no problem bot you could warp the laminate if you are walking in the same area and the under lay gets flattened then you have to do it all again
- as long as the underlay is for laminate floor and not for carpet. sounds like you may be from England if that's the case the last owner may have had laminate down and took it with them leaving you the underlayment. the underlayment provides shock absorption between the two floors.
- I would use what was already down.
