Do home security alarm systems really deter criminals?

- Yes they do.
- If they are the kind that wake up the neighbors. Burglars don't want people to see them and when one of those poud suckers go off everyone peeps out to see. Most ppl think that the little yard signs and the ADT stickers on the windows are deterrent enough. Wrong. CCTV cameras are even better because they think someone is already watching them.
- If I were a burglar, and I saw security warning stickers and/or cameras on your house, and none on your neighbor's house, I'd pick the neighbors house to break into.
- I would think so. They're so loud when they go off they're enough to wake the dead! and, they call the police immediately. The cops call your home, if you don't answer, they're there within 5 min. How do I know? I used to work for a house cleaning company and set off the alarm accidently twice. The cops were there within just a few min. I had to show my ID, show proof of why I was there, let them talk to my employer, the works. Not a fun situation.
- In my experience, yes, especially as concerns residential burglars. It's a matter of minimizing risk, why take the house with the alarm when there is less risk in choosing one that isn't alarmed. Burglars expect commercial property to be alarmed, so if they can';t disable it they count on a fast in and out before the police arrive. I had an attempted break in at my house last year. As soon as the sensors went off the offenders ran away. I wasn't home, but they didn't get anything.
