Is my dog an alcoholic?
It all started when I accidently left my drink of Jack and Coke out. I came in to the cup on the floor with no wet spots. I have two dogs. One was chewing on a toy and the other was on the couch laying on it's back with it's legs in the air. I check my dog's breath that was playing with her toy. nothing! Than i checked the one that was passed out on the couch. She smelled like a brewery! Every now and than, I catch her sitting and staring at my liquor cabinet, barking and wagging her tail. When I pour myself a drink, she just bounces like shes on a trampeline and barks heavily! I have to put some on my finger and let her lick it to calm her down at times. How do I break this out of her? It freaks me out how she just stares into the liquor cabinet! She reacts the same way as if I ask her "do you wanna go outside"?

- Liquor is basically sugar. All animals crave sugar. Don't let your dog drink alcohol, but make sure she's getting the right type of nutrition in her diet.
- haha aw...
- MY DOG DOES THE SAME THING LOL♥
- Sit down have the alcohol talk with the dog. Then commense with getting the dog drunk. I mean drunk like he's never been drunk before. Once it makes him sick he won't want it any more. I only say this because I have seen it happen so much. Alcohol is comprised mostly of sugar, and the dogs love the sugar and its intoxicating effects. Once this is no longer a pleasurable experience for them they will be deterred. You can check with your vet - maybe they will have some other more conventional ideas - but I know this one works. You might want to follow up with a 12 step group - like AA. Help him find a sponsor and get to work on the steps. It could save his life.
- What ever you do don't allow your dog any more alcohol. It can be deadly to them. They like the taste of the coke and the sugar. But you need to show the dog it's not for them but for you only. Please do not allow your dog to get drunk on any kind of alcohol. This can kill them. They don't have the same metabolism as we do for alcoholic beverages and can't process it the same way. If your dog wants to drink with you give her some of the coke instead. But do not put any alcohol in it. This should appease her. If she stares at your liquor cabinet tell her it's not for her and move her away. Or find another attention getter like putting a little coke in a bowl for her. This may help. You don't want an alcoholic dog. And you don't want to kill your dog with booze. They can be like little kids sometimes and want to drink whatever you are having. You need to take command of the situation before it's too late.
